About This Course

The Noorani Qaida is the classic first book of Quran learning — the trusted foundation that has taught generations to read Arabic correctly. At Quran Dawn you can learn Noorani Qaida online in live one-to-one lessons with Al-Azhar–qualified teachers, working through it lesson by lesson until reading the Quran becomes natural. It is structured, proven, and ideal for children and adults starting out.

What is the Noorani Qaida?

The Noorani Qaida (القاعدة النورانية) is a carefully sequenced primer that teaches the building blocks of Quran reading in a fixed, logical order — from individual letters, to their different shapes, to vowels, and finally to joining letters into words. Because every lesson builds directly on the one before it, students develop accurate reading and pronunciation without gaps.

It is the traditional starting point in Quran schools across the world, and it works just as well online, one-to-one — arguably better, because nobody is moved on before they are ready.

The Qaida, lesson by lesson

This is the path you follow. Each lesson is mastered before moving to the next:

  1. The Arabic letters — recognising and naming all 28 individual letters.
  2. Compound and joined letters — how letters appear together.
  3. Letter shapes — how each letter changes at the beginning, middle and end of a word.
  4. Short vowels (harakat) — Fatha, Kasra and Damma.
  5. Tanween — the double vowels that give the “-an, -in, -un” endings.
  6. Long vowels and Madd — stretching sounds correctly.
  7. Leen letters — the soft sounds.
  8. Sukoon — letters carrying no vowel.
  9. Shaddah — doubled letters.
  10. Reading rules — stopping, joining, and the basics of applied pronunciation.
  11. Reading practice — applying everything to real words and short surahs.

By the final lessons you are reading directly from the Quran, with correct pronunciation from the start.

The Noorani Qaida rules you will master

The Qaida does not only teach letters — it introduces the essential Noorani Qaida rules that make reading correct from day one. You learn how the short vowels change a letter’s sound, how tanween closes a word, how Madd stretches a sound to its proper length, how Sukoon and Shaddah change the weight and rhythm of a letter, and the basics of where to stop and where to join.

Learning these rules early matters enormously: it means you never build the bad habits that take years to unlearn later. Students who skip the Qaida often spend far longer fixing their reading than they would have spent learning it properly the first time.

Why learn the Noorani Qaida with Quran Dawn?

  • One-to-one, lesson by lesson. No student is pushed ahead before they are ready, and no one is held back either.
  • Al-Azhar–qualified teachers. Correct pronunciation modelled from the very first lesson.
  • DBS-checked teachers for children — important, since the Qaida is where most children begin.
  • Male and female teachers for the comfort of adults and sisters.
  • A proven method at a patient pace. The Qaida’s structure combined with one-to-one attention is a powerful combination.
  • Flexible UK scheduling (GMT/BST) — helping beginners keep the steady routine this stage needs.

Noorani Qaida or Noor Al Bayan — which is right for you?

Both are trusted beginner methods and both lead to the same destination: reading the Quran with correct basics. The difference is in style.

The Noorani Qaida is the classic, highly structured primer — a fixed sequence of lessons, each building on the last. It suits learners (and especially children) who do well with clear, predictable steps and a traditional approach.

The Noor Al Bayan method is gentler and more sound-based, easing complete beginners in gradually. It often suits nervous adult learners and reverts who want a softer build-up.

If you are not sure, do not worry about choosing. In your free trial your teacher will assess you and recommend the method that fits you or your child best — and you can always switch.

Your teachers

Quran Dawn’s Qaida teachers are Al-Azhar–qualified and highly experienced with beginners and children — the students who most need patience and gentle, clear correction. All teachers working with children are DBS-checked, and both male and female teachers are available.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Noorani Qaida, in simple terms?

It is the classic beginner’s book for learning to read Arabic and the Quran — a step-by-step primer that takes you from individual letters all the way to full reading.

Can adults learn the Noorani Qaida, or is it just for children?

Both. While many children start with the Qaida, it is just as effective for adults and reverts who want a solid, structured foundation rather than guesswork.

How many lessons are there?

The Qaida is organised as a sequence of lessons moving from letters, to shapes, to vowels, to joining and reading. Because we teach one-to-one, you move through each stage at your own pace rather than a fixed timetable.

Should I choose Noorani Qaida or Noor Al Bayan?

Both lead to the same goal. The Qaida is the classic structured primer; Noor Al Bayan is a gentler, phonics-style method. We recommend the best fit for you in your free trial.

Will I learn Tajweed rules in the Qaida?

The Qaida introduces the basic reading and pronunciation rules. For the full set of Tajweed rules, our dedicated Tajweed course is the natural next step after the Qaida.

Do I need to buy the Qaida book?

No. Your teacher shares the material with you during the lesson, so you can start immediately.

Can my child have a female teacher?

Yes — female teachers are available for children and sisters.

Is the first class free?

Yes. Your first Noorani Qaida class is a free trial, with no obligation to continue.

What You'll Learn

  • Recognise and name all 28 Arabic letters and their joined forms
  • Read each letter correctly at the start, middle and end of a word
  • Apply harakat, tanween, sukoon and shaddah accurately
  • Stretch long vowels and Madd to their correct length
  • Know the basic Noorani Qaida rules for stopping and joining
  • Read words and short surahs directly from the Quran

Your Learning Path

The Qaida follows a fixed, proven sequence. We group it into four stages, and you move on only when the current stage is solid.

01Stage 1 — Letters, Joined Letters & Shapes

You learn to recognise and name all 28 Arabic letters, then how they appear joined together and how each one changes shape at the start, middle and end of a word. Outcome: you can identify any letter wherever it appears

02Stage 2 — Harakat, Tanween & Long Vowels

Fatha, Kasra and Damma bring letters to life; tanween closes words; long vowels and Madd add correct length. Outcome: you can sound out any vowelled letter accurately.

03Stage 3 — Leen, Sukoon & Shaddah

The soft leen letters, letters with no vowel, and doubled letters — the three points where most beginners pick up bad habits if taught carelessly. Outcome: you read syllables cleanly and confidently.

04Stage 4 — Reading Rules & Quran Practice

The basic rules of stopping and joining, then applying everything to real words and short surahs from the Quran. Outcome: you are reading the Quran — and ready to begin Tajweed.

Who Is This For?

  • Children taking their first structured steps in Quran learning — the Qaida’s classic home.
  • Adults and reverts who want the thorough, traditional foundation rather than guesswork.
  • Parents who learned the Qaida themselves as children and want the same trusted method for their kids.
  • Anyone who wants correct reading basics in place before moving on to Tajweed and recitation.

Prefer a gentler, sound-based start? Our Noor Al Bayan course is the alternative — your free trial will tell you which suits you better.
